People who think outside the box always create new things. Cause they don’t stay within the
boundary. And an artist who doesn’t want to be within the boundaries of genre creates a new
genre of his own and like them, we are going to learn about a rising star BLACK GUM who
thinks music has no boundary and he always thinks outside the box. We have taken a short
interview with him about his life and journey in the music industry. Stay with us to learn about a
rising star.
● What are your legal name and your artist name?
-I am BLACK GUM.
● How old are you?
-I am 19
● Where are you from and where are you currently based?
-I was born in Mena, Arkansas. I am still in the 479 for the moment.
● What genre do you consider your music?
-Experimental and alternative, I like to create music and do stuff outside the box.
● What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
-All of it. Music is a whole language in itself in my mind, when I make music it’s a
way for me to really speak what I can’t express. The tempo, the melodies, the
bass, the pattern for the high hats, the vocals; each aspect is saying a phrase of
its own and translating the soul.
● What got you into music and who or what inspired you to make it?
-I remember when I was a little kid my parents were always playing their favorite
music and it just moved me in some way that nothing ever had before.
● Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about
them?
-XXXTENTACION by far had the biggest impact on my life. I remember the
summer I finished high school I discovered his music and I just thought it was
some hard shit until I started learning more about him. He was a lot like me, and
I’m sure a lot of people say that. I mean in the sense of feeling almost above
human. Before I could even remember I’ve felt like some kind of oracle like I was
destined to do a lot for this world.
● Which instrument is your favorite to play and why?
-I played saxophone for 8 years, I haven’t played much else yet. I love sax though
for sure.
● Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
-I love art in general really.
● Describe your favorite part about being a musician.
-Making the music in all honesty.
●Describe your creative process when you write new music.
-It literally just flows out, it’s more of a mental process and release than sitting
down planning a song out.
● Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?
-Full-on heart-and-soul dedication, and self-discipline. Those things will get you to
the future in any situation.
● Which qualities do you think to make a musician great?
-I think it’s Energy, passion, and truth.
● Is there another musician you’ve mentored or trained? Describe what you’ve done
to help them.
-My team OD helps elevate each other, we’re gonna grow as a family. If I see
something that another one of our artists needs help with I’ll do what I can, and
they all do the same back.
● Have you ever participated in any music competitions? Did you win any prizes?
-I have not performed yet
● Describe your favorite venue for performing.
-I haven’t performed yet, but I got some stuff in the works right now.
● What is your most recent song?
-I just released a SoundCloud exclusive “bitches” Listen to bitches

● What is your favorite song you’ve made?
-My song MISS SANDMAN is definitely up there, it’s gonna be the start of a story.
Expect a full LP in the future.
● Do you have any weaknesses that you’re actively working to improve on?
-Time management, I can’t ever stay on track and I’ll start a bunch of songs
instead of just finishing one.
● What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?
-I am creatively unstoppable and one day everyone will see my genius.
● Who would you most like to collaborate with?
-If I could do a video with Overcast I feel like we would pop off.
● What is your main goal in your music career?
-I’m going to get as known as I possibly can and change the world.
● What is one message you would give to your fans?
-Follow your fucking dreams, there are no excuses.
